2011 – 2012 Waterfowl Hunting Rules for Georgia Power Lakes in Northeast Georgia
These rules apply to the following Georgia Power Lakes: Lake Burton, Lake Seed, Lake Rabun, Tallulah Falls Lake, Lake Tugalo and Lake Yonah.
The 2011 early Teal season is September 10 – 25, 2011. The bag limit for teal is 4 per day (8 in possession). Early season for Canada Goose is September 3 – 25, 2011 with a daily bag limit of 5 geese (10 in possession).
The 2011-2012 duck and goose season is November 19 – 27, 2011 and December 10, 2011 – January 29, 2012. Hunting hours are from 30 minutes before sunrise to sunset each day. The bag limit is 5 geese per day (10 in possession). The bag limit for ducks is 6 per day (12 in possession). Refer to the Late Season Migratory Bird Regulations (LSMBR) for limits on specific species.
Youth Waterfowl Hunting Days are November 12 – 13, 2011. Only youths 15 years of age or less may hunt waterfowl on these days. An adult at least 18 years of age must accompany the youth into the field but may not hunt.
Hunters 16 years or older must possess state and federal waterfowl stamps and a state hunting license. A Migratory Bird Hunting stamp is required for all persons hunting waterfowl. In addition, all state and federal waterfowl regulations apply (see LSMBR).
A permit is required from Georgia Power to hunt on any Georgia Power Property. Permits can be obtained from the Georgia Power Land Office at 706/782-4014.
Waterfowl hunting is allowed on the Georgia Power Lakes listed above; however, no hunting is allowed within 300 feet of any dock, house, boat ramp, marina, or open recreation area without permission from the lessee or property owner. The permit from the lessee or property owner is in addition to the permit required from Georgia Power in item number 6 above.
Firearms must be unloaded and cased when transported in a boat or through an open recreation area or open boat ramp.
The procedures outlined above are necessary for safety and to reduce conflicts with other lake users. Failure to comply with these regulations will constitute hunting without permission and will result in a citation by a state conservation ranger
